If your child is enrolled in coverage through the Family Access to Medical Insurance Security Plan (FAMIS) at full-cost, then you can add them to your Virginia's Insurance Marketplace coverage during the next Open Enrollment Period on November 1 or if you experience another applicable qualifying life event.
If your child is enrolled in no-cost or low-cost FAMIS, then they are not eligible to enroll in coverage through Medical Assistance Services because it is considered to be minimum essential coverage under federal law. FAMIS provides quality health coverage with benefits structured specifically for children. For more information, about FAMIS, head to Family Access to Medical Insurance Security Plan (FAMIS).
