Medicaid, or Medical Assistance as it is commonly known in Virginia, is a health program that provides health coverage at no-cost to people with disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women, children and families, as well as childless adults, who’s household income is below a certain threshold, and who meet other eligibility requirements. Virginia has expanded its Medicaid program to ensure that Virginians with income below 138% of the federal poverty level have access to Medicaid, if they otherwise qualify.
You can apply for Medicaid anytime throughout the year through the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS). If you qualify, your coverage can begin immediately, any time of year.
