In 2020, the Virginia Health Benefit Exchange (VAHBE) was created by the Virginia General Assembly as a new division within the State Corporation Commission establishing a state-based marketplace where Virginia residents can apply, shop, and enroll in the health coverage that is right for them. While there are many similarities to the federal program, Virginia's Insurance Marketplace brings health coverage closer to home, and is focused solely on improving access to health coverage for Virginians.
Virginia's Insurance Marketplace is also driven to provide a superior customer service experience across the Commonwealth. With Virginia's Insurance Marketplace, Virginians have access to a variety of resources to help them understand how to apply, shop, and enroll in coverage, including access to people who can help them right in their community. Virginia's Insurance Marketplace is custom built by Virginia for Virginians to meet the state’s health coverage needs.
